You need to be quite technical to get this working properly (as with a lot of Netgear equipment and software)... Thankfully I am, and this works a treat. Great for controlling access via grouped family member devices, remote access is also handy... Gives you a neat reward button to blackmail kids into completing their chores or their internet will cut off at 9pm.

Having used this with my kids for years and years, I have found it incredibly valuable. I only wish I could add time limits to sites that aren't relisted, but otherwise Circle 1st Gen has been absolutely wonderful experience.

Like others are reporting, when you switch to a new phone, you will no longer be able to log into the app. It will say it is sending you a code, but you will not get it. Now, I am locked out of the app with no way to admin all the devices I have set up. I have a laptop that the Wi-Fi gets turned off at 10pm every night and no way to modify that. Disabling parental controls in the router interface doesn't help. I'll probably have to factory reset the router to fix this. Huge mess to fix.

The original phone I had the app on was destroyed, and I have no access to circle anymore because I can't get the stupid pass code, worthless to me now and some of my devices are stuck with no internet access 😒

If you use this free with Netgear routers, don't ever switch phones. I (and no one in the forums) can log in on a new device. It pretends to send you a passcode to authenticate, but that doesn't work because you never asked for a phone number when originally setup. Disabling and re-enabling on the router and starting over doesn't help either. It's almost like you want the free version to die.
