CoPilot UK + Ireland Navigation

★★★★★ Compared to TomTom (which is slow on even modern phones), Copilot is a joy to use because it's so fast & smooth. And speed camera warnings are free (unlike TomTom). Also Favourites are saved to SD card (unlike TomTom), and editing planned routes is very easy (unlike TomTom). BUT there are some big down sides: It's "Quickest route" is often not that good, and may need adding way points or choosing "Alternative route" to get a more sensible route (where as TomTom gives fantastic routes straight away). I've tried setting custom road speeds to improve this, but it ignores them for planning the route(!), and they have yet to fix this. Copilot is NEARLY the best Sat Nav available for Android, but TomTom's better routing is hard to argue with.

★★☆☆☆ UPDATE after reply from ALK. I am not trying to run this through an Android Auto device. This is a px5 bassed (Xtrons in this case) head unit which runs Android 8.0 - effectively a tablet, NOT Android Auto. The Google Play page for this app states that the app is compatible with my device, therefore ALK's reply is irrelevant. Its also interesting to note that ALK has (incorrectly) responded to my public review but not my private service ticket.... pretty poor customer service. Original Review: This app does not work with px5 android 8.0 head units (e.g. xtrons, pumpkin etc.). Voice notifications give you every notification the app has to offer in one go (so rather than just saying "Turn left", you get every instruction the app has, sometimes going on for minuets at a time!). Info screens are just plain black with an OK button at the bottom so you have no idea what is being said, and the navigation interface has several blacked out sections of screen when information (e.g. eta or next turn etc) is supposed to be. I have a ticket in with support for this already. I will update the review if it gets fixed but at the moment, if you have an android head unit, do not buy this app!!

★★☆☆☆ Used copilot for many years, this is the last time I pay for copilot - it's stopped working and support have not responded. The free version works so its not my devise at fault.

★★☆☆☆ Edit October 2018. Still the best sat nav badly compromised by the Yelp bug. Edit: new version (as of August the 9th 2017). Hopes dashed. Still hamstrung by Yelp. Maybe option to pay to use a functional seach engine? Was exceptional. Now Yelping. I've used Co-Pilot since 2008 (Windows Mobile, XDA Orbit 2) and it used to be an application that just kept getting better. Unfortunately, the on-line search function which used to use multiple engines (including Google) was replaced with Yelp, a business submitted address book of questionable accuracy and limited entries. My understanding is that this is through an exclusivity deal with Yelp (i.e. a poorly considered revenue stream). Support Guidance is to use a reliable search engine to find the address and copy / paste into Co-Pilot and to be nice and contact Yelp regarding omissions and errors (there's a form for that - good luck). I very much hope the next release restores the withdrawn functionality (I'm writing from version 10.x ). Meantime, I drop the review to two stars.
