I've been using the basic Carrier home app for years. Recently I kept getting pop-up ads for the new smart home app so I tried it. It looks to me like it gives the exact same information but in a different layout. I prefer the old Carrier home app. It's easier to read. The numbers are larger on my little phone. Not sure why there are 2 apps. The developers must be bored.

App does not tell you if you are "gas heating" or "cooling." This problem was solved in the Carrier Home app but Smart Home has the problem. Nice app but it has the same problems that Carrier Home has. They can't get the AQI Air Quality Index right. The AQI numbers are way off compared to Air now. Gov. In addition, the AQI numbers are repeated 3 to 4 days in a row without changing. I believe the AQI numbers are from the West Coast, San Francisco to be exact, not from where I am in Bayonne NJ.

The original app from a few years back that mimicked the smart thermostat worked great! It reflected all aspects of the hvac system, including which Zone was active, but for one flaw-it only displayed the screen sideways forcing you to turn the phone sideways to view it. Then the new and improved app came out and half the functionality was broken-it was garbage and I returned to the original. 3–4 years later, features were starting to work abet painfully slow, and no usable multi-zone status.
